received her MSc and PhD degrees from Åbo Akademi University in 1984 and 1996, respectively. Before her current position as a chief research scientist, she has been working as researcher/senior researcher at VTT since 1986 and as research professor in biosensor technology during 2005-2008. Her research has mainly been focused on the molecular interface. She has immobilised antibodies for immunoassay, functionalised the sensor surface for DNA hybridisation, and studied monolayer formation of molecules with low non-specific binding and molecules for gas sensors. The measuring systems have been based on surface plasmon resonance and piezo resonators.

Publications and Patents
She is author or co-author in about 50 peer reviewed international publications and main inventor in 5 and co-inventor in 4 patents/patent applications.
